Expansion Sets with a Construction Theme

If you click an affiliate link in this post (and buy something), I'll get a few cents in return. Thank you.

Construction Sets Are One of the Building Blocks of the GeoTrax World

Once upon a time, someone built all the roads and rails and buildings in and around the GeoTrax towns – Tracktown, Timbertown, and all the rest. You can still play with the vehicles and accessories they used. You can use the construction sets to make further improvements to your GeoTrax world.

Listed below are virtually all the construction-related GeoTrax sets. Within them, you’ll get bulldozers, wrecking balls, dump trucks, quarries, gravel pits, and more.

Get All the Gravel You Need at the Load ’em Up Gravel Company

B4340 Load 'em Up Gravel

B4340 Load 'em Up Gravel

Fill your truck with (brown) gravel by pushing the plunger at the top of the Gravel Tower. It will “magically” flip your cargo from the flatbed side to the dirt side. Drive it into the building and unload it; that is, your flatbed will again appear in the back of the truck.

The Load ’em Up Gravel Co. set (B4340) was produced from 2003 through 2007. It includes a unique right turn / left turn sign.

This set was almost identically reproduced in 2007 with just a few alterations as a Kohl’s exclusive. Set M3237 has a similar Gravel Tower. The most notable difference is that it is mostly maroon whereas the tower in this set is mostly green.

See a video of the flipping action. It’s the fifth one in the first playlist.

A complete Load ’em Up Gravel set includes the following items.

  • Gravel Tower
  • Gravel Truck
  • Right / Left Turn Sign
  • Straight Road Track

The payload of this gravel truck flips over to reveal a full load of (brown) gravel.

Let Big Rig Trucking Carry the Heavy Stuff for You

B4344 Big Rig Trucking

B4344 Big Rig Trucking

The most unusual thing about the Big Rig Trucking set (B4344) is that the semi trailer appears to have missing wheels. However, this is by design, so there’s no need to go hunting for another set of tires.

This is a simple expansion set may best be suited to the very young. It doesn’t do a whole lot by itself which may just be what your child needs when first getting into GeoTrax.

This set was released in 2003 and discontinued in 2007. You can find a variation in set K3014 where the cab is red and the trailer is blue.

A complete set includes these items.

  • Semi Truck Cab
  • Semi Trailer
  • Gravel Cargo

You can remove the gravel-like cargo from the trailer. You could also flip it over. That would make it look a little like water or just possibly a tarp covering cargo underneath.

If you look closely, you’ll notice some tools embedded in the gravel.

Smash It with the Big Falls Wrecking Ball

B4348 Big Falls Wrecking

B4348 Big Falls Wrecking

The Big Falls Wrecking expansion set (B4348) provides its own set of brick stacks – 3 of them – for you to destroy, but you can use the wrecking ball to smash pretty much anything else that will fall over. Just remember to set out the wrecking ball sign to warn others to stay far away from the falling rubble.

This is one of the more attractive and interesting small sets available. Kids love to knock things down. This wrecking ball lets them do just that within the GeoTrax world.

Watch how an adult tries to make this work. It’s the second video in the second playlist.

The three reddish purple brick cubes are unique to this set, but you can obviously use them as cargo in combination with other sets.

This set was released in 2003 and discontinued in 2007.

A complete Big Falls Wrecking set consist of these pieces.

  • Wrecking Ball Vehicle
  • Construction Platform
  • 3 Brick Stacks
  • Wrecking Ball Sign

The sides of the construction platform fold down to simulate a job well done.

Hire the Mix ‘n Go Work Crew for All Your Paving Needs

B5294 Mix 'n Go Work Crew

B5294 Mix 'n Go Work Crew

This first release of the Mix ‘n Go Work Crew set (B5294) was produced in 2003. It is virtually the same as set H8097 which came out in 2005. Both were discontinued in 2007.

The cement mixer turns as the car moves forward, giving it a realistic look. The remote controller is one that you can insert into the depot from Tracktown Railway to hear the sounds.

See the Crew in action. It’s the third video in the second playlist.

A complete Mix ‘n Go Work Crew set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Dump Truck (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Cement Mixer
  • Trailer Car
  • Straight Road Track
  • 2 On/Off Ramps (Road style)
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Lift and Haul with the Fork Lift Freight Machine

C6854 Fork Lift Freight

C6854 Fork Lift Freight

Press the button atop the fork lift to lower the fork. Release to let it spring back into the high position. Carry your load to the loading dock or wherever you need it.

An unusual “feature” of this set (C6854) is that the loading dock doesn’t attach to other pieces in the GeoTrax world. This is really a stand-alone item that you can place wherever you like. In a way, this makes sense. Why would a loading dock be attached to track? You can take cargo from a train or somewhere else, set it on the dock, and have a worker handle it from there.

See how I put this into action. It’s a piece of the third video in the third playlist.

The Fork Lift Freight set was released in 2004 and stayed in production for the three years following (discontinued in 2007).

A complete Fork Lift Freight set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Fork Lift
  • Loading Dock
  • 2 Cargo Crates

Looking for Buried Treasure? Employ the Deep Digs Crew

C6858 Deep Digs Crew

C6858 Deep Digs Crew

So maybe there’s no buried treasure, but anytime you need to make a big hole, you’ll want theDeep Digs Crew (C6858) on your side. They’ll move any amount of dirt and rock that you ask them to. That’s just the way they’re built.

That said, you probably don’t want to get too much fine dirt or sand on their insides. If you do take them outside and they do get dirty, a good rinse in some water should make them as good as new.

Watch the Crew in action (without any sand or dirt). It’s part of the third video in the third playlist.

This set was released in 2004 and discontinued in 2007. It was re-released in orange in 2006 as part of set K3014, the Special Edition Vehicle Pack, which was a Toys R Us exclusive.

A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Excavator
  • Generator Car

G8837 Original Box

Construction set G8837 is a combo pack that consists of the following.

  • B3007 Mt. Blast Construction Co.

Hear Construction Sounds Made by the Mix ‘n Go Work Crew

H8097 Mix 'n Work Crew 2nd Release

H8097 Mix 'n Work Crew 2nd Release

This version of the Mix ‘n Go Work Crew (H8097) is identical to the original with the exception of one feature of the remote controller. As you can see above, there are no electrical contacts at the base of the controller. This means you don’t need the Tracktown Railway’s Depot to hear the sounds made by the work crew’s equipment.

This set and several others released in 2005 produce their own sounds without an external aid. Apparently someone at Fisher Price decided that the Depot shouldn’t be a requirement for kids to enjoy the sounds.

The complete work crew set, discontinued in 2007, includes the following items.

  • Construction Truck (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Cement Mixer
  • Cargo Car
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Construction Set #2 – A Mystery

I have very little specific information about this set (H1639), other than the fact that it existed. It apparently consisted of B3007 Mt. Blast Construction Co. and B4434 Big Rig Trucking. If you have any information about it, please let me know by using the Contact page.

Allbright Trucking

J9526 Allbright Trucking

J9526 Allbright Trucking

The Allbright Trucking set (J9526) is a little unusual design-wise in that you access the batteries from the top instead of underneath the truck. That black canvas is simply the cover for the battery case.

The tractor portion of the truck swivels a bit relative to the trailer part. The cargo car is open and could carry any small load (such as the cubes found in many other sets) besides the barrels that come with this set.

This set was only available for a short time from 2006 through 2007. A complete set consists of these pieces.

  • Semi Truck (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Cargo Car
  • Barrels
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Dig In, Then Lift Your Coal Out with the Original Lift ‘n Load Quarry

K7113 Lift 'n Load Quarry

K7113 Lift 'n Load Quarry

The first release of the Lift ‘n Load Quarry (K7113) is similar in many respects to the second release (below). The main loop of track, the conveyor belt, and the spiral are exactly the same. It’s the dumping piece and the truck that are different.

Back your truck up, with a full load of coal, to the yellow dumping area and let the boulder, or whatever else you’re hauling, roll down in.

A complete set consists of these pieces. See the second release below for buttons to check online prices of both sets.

  • Spiral Helix Quarry
  • Conveyor Belt
  • Y-Track (Road style)
  • 2 Curved Road Tracks
  • Double Y-Track (Road style)
  • Dumping Action Track
  • On/Off Road Ramp
  • Dump Truck
  • 2 Boulders

See the 1st Lift n Load Quarry at Amazon.

Note that the initial picture at Amazon is incorrect, as of this writing, but the product being sold should be the right one.

Back Your Cement Mixer Up and Pour a Fresh Load of the Gray Stuff

K7114 Cement Mixer

K7114 Cement Mixer

There’s not a lot to this little set, but the cement mixer (K7114) is still a lot of fun. It makes authentic sounds when you press the button on top of the cab.

This set was both released and discontinued in 2007.

The truck pictured here has had a silver sticker removed from its mixer.

A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Cement Mixer (Requires 1 AAA battery)
  • Curvy Road Sign

See the Cement Mixer at Amazon.

Move the Dirt in Both Directions with the Forward and Reverse Bulldozer

K7116 Forward and Reverse Bulldozer

K7116 Forward and Reverse Bulldozer

The Forward and Reverse Bulldozer (K7116) was one of the first vehicles to have the advantage of moving in both directions, adding a new dimension to GeoTrax toys.

It was released in 2007 but was discontinued in the same year.

A full set includes the items listed below.

  • Bulldozer (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Boulder
  • Barrel
  • Construction Sign
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Check the pricing and availability of the Bulldozer at Amazon.

Dump in Either Direction with the Forward and Reverse Dump Truck

K7117 Forward and Reverse Dump Truck

K7117 Forward and Reverse Dump Truck

Along with the Forward and Reverse Bulldozer (shown above), this Forward and Reverse Dump Truck (K7117) was one of the first GeoTrax vehicles to move in both directions with a remote controller.

Press the button atop the truck cab to hear realistic sounds found at a work site. The picture only shows one of the two boulders that come with a complete set, as indicated below.

  • Dump Truck (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • 2 Boulders (only one shown)
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Get Your Fill of Stone at the Lift ‘n Load Quarry

L5888 Lift 'n Load Quarry 2nd Release

L5888 Lift 'n Load Quarry 2nd Release

The Lift ‘n Load Quarry (L5888) has so much going for it that I almost put it in the Starter Set category. You can turn the crank on the conveyor belt to raise a boulder (or anything else) and let it drop into the spiral helix of the quarry proper.

You can back the dump truck along the action track until it spills its load into the hollow in the road. Then you can do it all again.

This is the second release of the quarry; it was apparently released in 2007. See set K7113 for the first release of the quarry.

A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture, except the second boulder.

  • Spiral Helix Quarry
  • Conveyor Belt
  • Dump Truck
  • 2 Boulders
  • 3 Curved Road Tracks
  • Double Y-Track
  • Dumping Action Track
  • Quarry Worker

Haul It Away with Dump Truck Hefty, Grant, and Norm

L6377 Hefty, Grant, and Norm

L6377 Hefty, Grant, and Norm

Here’s a sturdy little set, Dump Truck Hefty with Grant and Norm (L6377), that has a couple of unusual characters – Grant, the sledge hammer wielder, and Norm, the stop sign holder (or the other way around). Either one fits in the dump truck cab, but I guess they’d have to drive one-handed!

A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Dump Truck (Hefty) (Requires 1 AAA battery)
  • Worker #1 (Grant)
  • Worker #2 (Norm)

See Hefty, Grant, and Norm at Amazon.

Carry Your Load Away with Hauler and Big Rob

M3236 Hauler with Big Rob

M3236 Hauler with Big Rob

It may come as a little bit of a surprise that a truck called Hauler only has one car you can put cargo into, but that’s the case with Hauler and Big Rob the Most Dependable Team (M3236). To somewhat make up for this, you do get some interesting sounds from this semi-trailer / remote controller combination.

This set was released in 2007, making it one of the last teams produced that year.

You get everything pictured above in this set.

  • Semi Cab (Hauler)
  • Semi Trailer (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Cargo Car
  • Driver (Big Rob)
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
M3237 Construction Set with Bull and Bruno

M3237 Construction Set with Bull and Bruno

Most of the pieces in this Construction Set (M3237) come from other sets previously issued. The picture above only shows the Gravel Headquarters, which is Gravel Tower from set B4340 Load ’em Up Gravel Co. decked out in new colors.

Other features of this set are Bull and Bruno, plus 4 extra minifigs (Hugh and Vern, Norm and Grant), a straight piece of road track, a DVD, and a right/left turn sign. This set was released in 2007 and discontinued in 2008.

I used to say that there was a push truck included in this set, but now I’m not so sure. I think I got that idea from the picture on top of the gravel tower and from the fact that one was included in the original B4340 set.

A complete list of items included follows.

  • Train Engine (Bull) (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • 2 Cargo Cars
  • 2 Cargo Crates
  • Engineer (Bruno)
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • Gravel Headquarters
  • Right / Left Turn Sign
  • Straight Track (Road style)
  • Hugh and Vern
  • Grant and Norm
  • DVD

Smash Some Rocks into Stones at the Gravel Pit

N8852 Gravel Pit

N8852 Gravel Pit

The Gravel Pit was a Kohl’s exclusive that uses a number of items also found in other sets but adds a playmat, which is only found in a handful of sets. The fabric of the playmat is as sturdy as everything else in the GeoTrax world. It would take quite a lot of misuse to even tear it a little.

The Gravel Pit was apparently released in 2008.

A complete set consists of these items. It does not include the Gravel Tower on the right side of the of the mat.

  • Gravel Loader (repurposed coal loader)
  • 2 Boulders
  • Dump Truck
  • Gravel Worker
  • Wrecking Ball Sign
  • Playmat

Call on Knox and Nick the Demolition Team to Get It Knocked Down

R8059 Knox and Nick

R8059 Knox and Nick

So you need that old building demolished? Give Knox and Nick the Demolition Team (R8059) a holler, and they’ll come a-runnin’ to help you out. This set, probably released in 2009, includes a unique gray stone cargo cube that represents the team’s work.

A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.

  • Engine (Knox) (Requires 3 AAA batteries)
  • 2 Cargo Cars
  • Engineer (Nick)
  • Stone Cargo Cube
  • Remote Controller (Requires 3 AAA batteries)

Move Even Heavy Stone at the Lift & Load Construction Co.

R8638 Lift and Load Construction Co.

R8638 Lift & Load Construction Co.

At the Lift & Load Construction Co. (R8638), you can move heavy loads all over the place. Raise them to the top of the building in the open elevator. Slide them down the ramp. Pick them up with the crane, operated by Dave. Load them into Dumper, the dump truck, and cart them away using Dave or some other worker.

This set comes with the piece of track you see attached to the building. It’s an elevation track that has the ridge down the middle, but it’s gray colored like road tracks.

You get the following items in this set.

  • Dump Truck (Dumper)
  • Construction Worker (Dave)
  • Construction Site Building (with track)
  • Crushed Rock Block

Lift ‘n Load Quarry – 2nd Verse, Same as the 1st?

R9946 Lift 'n Load Quarry set

“2nd verse, same as the 1st” isn’t quite accurate in this case, but 3rd verse, same as the 2nd would be. This set is the third release of the Lift ‘n Load Quarry (R9946) and, as far as I can tell, is exactly the same as the previous version (L5888) shown above. If you compare the two here, you’ll notice that I didn’t even bother to take a new picture for this latest edition.

Apparently Fisher Price and/or Toys R Us just wanted to produce more quarries (probably in 2009). A complete set includes the following items.

  • Spiral Helix Quarry
  • Conveyor Belt
  • Dump Truck
  • 2 Boulders
  • 3 Curved Road Tracks
  • Double Y-Track
  • Dumping Action Track
  • Quarry Worker

When you click an affiliate link above and buy something soon enough, I'll get a little cash in return.
