What happens when you click an affiliate link here and make a purchase? I get a little cash. That’s all.
When I say “structures”, I’m referring to both man-made buildings and natural formations, such as mountains. Most of the structures in the GeoTrax world are man-made. You’ll see train stations, cranes of all sizes, sawmills, and so on.
There are some tunnels which are sort of borderline structures. They go through natural features (mountains), but they were dug out by people.
There are some mountains to cross over in GeoTrax sets, but these you will generally find in starter sets.
Below is a list of expansion sets which feature structures as their chief component. If you want to check the Amazon or eBay price, click a link near it for most sets.

Give Your Train a Drink at Steamline Station

Even your trains get thirsty after a while. Treat them to a little water from the tower when you stop at the Steamline Station (C6852). The spout on the water tower moves up and down. The train engine is only a push vehicle which may make it more suitable for 2 or 3 year olds.
Note that the water tower does not contain any liquid. You have to use your imagination.
See the Tower in motion. It’s part of the third video in the third playlist.
A complete Steamline Station set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Train Engine
- Water Tower
- Railroad Crossing Sign

Pick Up Those Heavy Loads with the Crankin’ Round Crane

With this huge crane, you get built-in track that works with the crane itself. There is no engine with this Crankin’ Round Crane set (H4648), but there is a green cargo car and 2 crates. The crates fit nicely into the crane and slide easily down the chute.
When purchasing this set, check to see if the orange chute is included, as it is fairly often missing. The chute attaches to the crane, but it comes off more easily than many GeoTrax pieces.
This set was released in 2005 and was discontinued in 2008. It was released again in 2007 as a Toys R Us exclusive which included a minifig holding a sledge hammer.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Crane with Chute
- Cargo Car
- 2 Cargo Crates

Manage Your Barrel Supply with the Liftin’ Roll Barrel Loader

The Liftin’ Roll Barrel Loader (H4833), despite its rather wonky name, is actually a pretty cool set.
You can lift your three colorful (orange, blue, and green) barrels up a vertical conveyor belt onto an overhead bridge. From there they’ll roll across to the other side of the track to the other tower of this structure.
Then the barrels will maneuver down the inside of the tower, back and forth, until they get to the chute where you can load them onto a waiting (hopefully) cargo car.
Why exactly you’d put all that effort into such a task is beyond me, but that’s not the point. The point is that it’s a lot of fun to do so.
If you’re considering purchasing this set, be sure it includes the blue bridge which is often missing because it’s one of those pieces that doesn’t really look like it belongs in a GeoTrax set. I think some owners see the two towers and figure that it looks complete, not realizing that the two need to be connected.
This set was released in 2005 and was discontinued in 2006, much like the roundhouse below that has the next product ID in the series. A complete set includes the following pieces.
- Barrel Loader (2 towers, base, and bridge)
- 3 Barrels
- Loader Car
Pull Your Train into the Workin’ Roundhouse and Give It a Spin

Workin’ Roundhouse is one of the fancier sets (H4834) for its size, and it’s actually much larger than it might appear in the picture.
You can park you train in the fuel bay or the wash bay or just turn it around and head out again. It is a roundhouse, after all.
This set was released in 2005 and discontinued in 2006.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Roundhouse
- 3 Ramps
- Wash Bay
- Fuel Bay

When You’re Running on Fumes, Get to the Gas and Go Station

This set, if you can call it that, seems to be the only one made of just one (assembled) item. That might make it feel less exciting that virtually all of the others, but it still does quite a bit for what it is and what it usually costs. The Gas and Go Station (J0778) is, as you might expect, a place for your cars (not so much your trains) to refuel.
There is a metal bell that dings as you crank the pump wheel. The price wheels spin as you turn the crank. You can also roll your vehicle into the garage if it needs repair.
This gas station was released in 2006 and was discontinued in 2008. It was re-released as a Toys R Us exclusive in 2007 with a different colored (red) roof.
A complete set consists of just the Gas Station itself.

Run Your Train North, South, East, or West through the Rocky Falls Tunnel

The Rocky Falls Tunnel (J2527) comes with two fabric tunnel extensions. You can run your trains through them or past the gates attached to the mountain section of the main tunnel.
The version comes with a moveable waterwheel next to a shack atop the mountain.
See the similar sets L5889 and T0831. This set was released in 2055 or 2006 and was discontinued in 2007.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Mountain Tunnel (Requires 3 AA batteries)
- 2 Fabric Tunnel Extensions

Give Your Passengers a Big Drink from the Water Works Fill Co.

The Water Works Fill Co. (J3972) is one of the neatest sets in the GeoTrax world. When you turn the crank, the water tower appears to fill with water. Then when you lower the spouts, it seems to empty into your tanker car or whatever vehicle you choose. The carton of water containers is unique to this set.
This set was released in 2006 and discontinued in 2007.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Water Tower
- Tanker Car
- Water Container

Take a Trip to the Big City to See the Lights

The Big City Lights set (K0400) is a monster. It’s huge.
When you press the red button on the right side of the yellow building, lights start to flash and sounds emerge from the structure. When you move the crane atop one of the other buildings, you hear cool crane sounds.
As you can see above, you also get an orange city bus, a yellow stack of newspapers, some teal building squares, and a cube of bricks. All of this would go nicely with a City Track Pack, if you can find one.
This set was released in 2006 and was only available into 2007.
A complete set is made of these items.
- City Center (Requires 3 AA batteries)
- T-Track (City style)
- Straight City Track
- 4 Square Building Parts
- Bus
- Brick Cube
- Newspaper Stack

Get Your Lumber Cut at the Chop ‘n Haul Sawmill

The Chop ‘n Haul Sawmill (L3135) works well with the starter set Timbertown Railway. There’s lots to do in this set: chopping logs, hauling lumber, getting a cord of wood from the sawmill, and more.
This set was apparently released in 2007.
A complete set consists of these items.
- Sawmill with 3 attachments
- 4 Curved Rail Tracks
- Train Engine (Stumpy)
- Logging Car
- Forester #1 (Miter)
- Forester #2 (Chopper)
- Evergreen Tree
- 2 Large Logs
- 2 Cargo Crates

Check Out the New Look of the Rocky Falls Tunnel

This edition of the Rocky Falls Tunnel (L5889) no longer has the waterwheel or the shack atop the mountain. This set was available exclusively at Toys R Us and at the Fisher-Price online store. It includes a minifig known as the Forester, since he is carrying a small evergreen.
I’m not certain of the release date, but it was likely 2007.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Main Mountain Tunnel (Requires 3 AA batteries)
- 2 Fabric Side Tunnels
- Forester minifig

Work Hard in the Crankin’ Round Crane

This is the second release (2007) of the Crankin’ Round Crane (L5891). The differences between this set and the first release are these.
Cosmetically, the colors are changed. The main body of the crane is now orange instead of green.
The base of the crane is no longer interactive with powered trains that pass underneath it.
Instead of cargo cars, this set includes a worker holding a sledge hammer.
A complete Crankin’ Round Crane set, as shown, includes these pieces.
- Crane with Chute
- 2 Cargo Crates
- Crane Operator
Let the Attendant Fill Your Tank at the Gas and Go Station

This second release of the Gas and Go Station (L5892) includes a cute little guy in green overalls. He’s also wearing brown gloves and a blue scarf on his head.
When you turn the crank on the gas pump, the price and gallons wheels spins, the sign on top twirls, and a bells dings.
This set was released in 2007 and includes the following pieces.
- Gas Station
- Attendant

Fix Your Cars and Trucks at the Mechanic’s Garage

You say your car isn’t sounding just right? Your truck has a transmission that’s going bad?Bring them into the Mechanic’s Garage (N8851), and he’ll fix you right up.If the garage looks suspiciously like a fire station you’ve seen elsewhere, I think you’re right. It’s pretty much the same building in different colors. This is another Toys R Us exclusive set. It was released in 2008 and includes these pieces.
- Garage
- Car
- Drive Forward Sign
- Playmat (not shown)
Chop ‘n Haul Sawmill, 2nd Release
The second edition of the Sawmill (P1502) includes 2 helpers – Miter and Chopper. I’m not sure which is which, I’ll just refer to them as Foresters.
It seems that Woohoo and Opie make an appearance in this set as well.
- Sawmill
- Engine (Stumpy)
- Flatbed Car
- Forester (Miter)
- Forester (Chopper)
- Evergreen Tree
- Logs
- Stacks of Lumber
- Track (amount and type unknown)
- Engine (Woohoo)
- Engineer (Opie)
Get All Your Wood at the Lumber Yard

The Lumber Yard set (P8546) has several repurposed items. It has a playmat which, although included in a few other sets, has pictures on it that are unique to this set, making it look more like a real lumber yard.
The 3 logs are the same as the 3 pipes in the Tracktown Railway set, but they are cast here is brown instead of yellow.
The building itself is the same as the earlier Pipe Works but again in different colors. It now obviously produces lumber instead of pipes.
The round railroad crossing sign was featured in just one other track set earlier – the Rail Track Pack (B4338). You can’t quite see it in the picture above, but the evergreen tree, while included in several other sets, here has a green trunk instead of brown. the forester is also found in a few other sets.
The train engine is the same design found in (at least) the On-the-Go Zoo set but in changed colors.
A complete set includes these pieces.
- Lumber Building
- 3 Logs
- Train Engine
- Forester
- Evergreen Tree
- Round Railroad Crossing Sign
- Forest Playmat
Add a Windmill to Your GeoTrax Layout

The windmill in this set (R9359) is identical to the one you’ll find in the Workin’ Town Railway set. Here you get a cargo crate and Big Rob to enhance your play. The set was a Toys R Us exclusive released in 2009.
You can see the complete set above and in the listing below.
- Windmill
- Cargo Crate
- Big Rob minifig
One More Time Through the Rocky Falls Tunnel

This is the third time Fisher-Price released the Rocky Falls Tunnel (T0831). This edition was a Toys R Us exclusive. The tunnel itself is the same as that found in set L5889 (second release, above).
The differences in this version are in the accessories. Here you get a lavender blue sports car in addition to the Forester minifig.
This set was released in 2009. See set J2527 (also above) for the first release.
A complete set consists of the following items which are all shown in the picture.
- Main Mountain Tunnel (Requires 3 AA batteries)
- 2 Fabric Side Tunnels
- Forester minifig
- Sports Car

Chop ‘n Haul Sawmill Number 3
The third edition of the Chop ‘n Haul Sawmill (T4496) was a Toys R Us exclusive. It consist of the following items.
- Sawmill
- Engine / Truck
- Log
- 4 Curved Rail Elevation Tracks
- Worker Holding an Axe
- Yellow Wood Cube
Central Station But Not as Grand
Set T4497 is a Toys R Us exclusive – in more ways than one. It excludes virtually all the track, the train, and the minifigs that were included in the original Grand Central Station set.
With this set, which was released in 2010, you only get the terminal building and the two platforms. Granted, it’s a big building and does have one piece of track built in, but you do need other sets to have any fun with this one. Apparently Toys R Us figured that by 2010 you did have more GeoTrax sets in your collection.
